BLUE LAKE v CENTRALS

In a battle for a top four position Blue Lake hosted Centrals in very trying weather conditions. Centrals had the first real chance when Jose Estevez found some space in the box only to slam the ball well over the bar. Soon after it was Bruce Morale who had the chance but shot straight at Andy Armandi in goals for the Blues. The Blues were also creating chances and Mitch Thomson ran on to a good through ball but Brodie Koop was alert and was off his line quickly. Tom Lloyd was causing problems for the Blues defence and was working well with Morale but the defensive work of Bryce Strachan and new player Luke Braithwaite was ensuring that they had to work hard for everything. Thomson and the pace of Tristan Guess kept the Centrals defence led by the reliable Jesse Wenham on their toes. The game was deadlocked at half time at nil all.
The second half got underway and Centrals could have gone one up when a free kick was flicked on to Lloyd but Strachan was there to clear. Thomson then went on a rampage which gave him two opportunities in quick succession but couldn’t find the back of the net. Armandi came to the Blues rescue when Lloyd and Morale broke through but he was out to mop up safely. Blue Lake were creating the cleaner chances at this stage and after some deft footwork by Chatindiara Thomson found himself one on one with Koop only to hit his shot inches wide. Kyle Reiner was into the action up front when a cross from Guess found him but his header went just past the post. It wasn’t long before he made amends for that miss when he was on the end of a sharp pass and tucked it neatly past the approaching Koop. The Blues would have gone further ahead through Reiner again if not for the terrific save pulled of by Koop. Centrals were desperately trying to get the equaliser and finally managed it when a shot from Estevez was deflected out to Andrew Stockwell who slammed home from close range. Both teams were striving for the winner but in the end it finished in a draw. All in all a very good game to watch for spectators considering the windy conditions.
