SHARK ATTACK BY JOHN BRUTTOMESSO


In Round 8, the Sharks host the Portland Panthers once again at Shark Park.

In last weeks encounter, the Sharks won 4-2 in very difficult conditions, as the pitch was almost unplayable, and represented a mud pit.

The conditions this week were very good, and the Sharks were eager to secure 3 points to remain in the Top 4, 2 points behind Inter.

Missing from the starting line up this week included John Stemberger, Damian Stemberger, Ryan Tobin, Noel Wood.

Coming into the starting line-up was Stuart Sherrard, Ethan Parsons, Andy Gentile, and substitutes Salva Kosela, Mafwata Bope, Hpa Eh, Simon Clarkson.

The summary of the match follows:

(30 seconds)It didn’t take very long before the Sharks scored their first goal. From the centre kick off, the ball was passed to Kennett, who made a dashing run down the left, crossed the ball, and found Gentile who cleverly headed the ball in the path of Gordon, who made no mistake which started a goal scoring spree for the Sharks. 1-0

(7min) Nzeakor won the ball in defense, and decided to go on solo run, taking on any opponent in his path including the goal keeper at the other end, and finally walked the ball over the line for the Sharks second 2-0

(23min) Another cross from Kennett, this time found Parsons on the near post, who headed the ball towards goal, but unfortunately hit the post.

(27min) Weistra receives the ball from Gordon from the midfield, then takes on 3-4 defenders in his path, and cleverly squares it to Kennett, who kicks the ball into the top right hand corner of goal. 3-0

(29min) Kennett scores his second, when he finds room just outside the box, and blasts from 20 yds , the keeper manages to get a touch but not enough to save it from going into goal. 4-0

(32min) Bytheway with a long throw into the box, finds a leaping Weistra who heads the ball, but misses narrowily over the cross bar.

(44min) Kennett once again blasts through the Panthers defence, and places the ball between the keeper and post and over the line for his hatrick in the first half.5-0

Half Time

(47min) No #9 for the Panthers scores a quick goal . 5-1

(52min) Kennett tries to get one back, dribbles through the middle of the pitch, taking on the Panthers defence, but could not quite finish off the brilliant skills he was displaying.

(53min) Weistra finds some room, and lets go on his right foot, the shot too good to stop, hits the keeper and bounces in. 6-1

(55min) No #9 breaks away from a fumbled challenge, and slots the ball under a diving Fuller. 6-2

Two substitutions made, Parsons and Sherrard being replaced by Kosela and Eh.

(63 min) Widdison breaks from defence, gets involved in some triangle passing between Kennett, Gordon& Weistra and continues forward to score a goal. 7-2

Weistra is substituted for 17 yr old Mafwata Bope.

(68min) Goal of the day when Gordon lets fly with an overhead scissor kick , the ball travelling to the back post, where new recruit Kosela cleverly headers the ball into the corner of goal.8-2

(88min) Panthers score a consolation goal that ended a very entertaining game of soccer, with the final score Sharks winning 8-3.

Next week, Sharks face the inform team Apollo who have been undefeated so far this season and are favorites to win the Premiership.


As of next week, the Sharks will be without their Coach Bruttomesso for matches against Blue Lake , Inter & Naracoorte, as he will be on holidays overseas for four weeks.

WBSA Legend Vic Gentile will manage the team, and both are confident that the players will be able to continue their winning streak and remain in the Top 3 positions.
