Seniors – North Geelong 1 vs Whittlesea Zebras 0
On a cold and blustery Melbourne afternoon the Warriors took on the Zebras in a match that would give either team the impetus to propel itself in the promotion spots.
In their first encounter the Zebras came out surprise 2 nil victors at Elcho Park, as their coach Gianfranco said, “very lucky and very happy”. Well the story was reversed this time around.
North Geelong’s seniors resembled that of the Under 21s and contained Ferguson, Boyar, Nack, Mantzaridis, Patti and Dunn in the squad. The five lads are aged 18 years and younger; a sign of the times to comes for the Warriors.
The Zebras came out with the intent to push North early, Tom Dunn was on hand to deter any opportunity and kept the Warriors clean sheet in tact. Warriors stepped up the pressure and began to pepper the Zebra’s goal. In difficult conditions as the half almost came to and end, Robbie Zadworny was on hand to slot one past the keeper to give the visitors a handy 1 – 0 lead. In the second half the Warriors had their chances to extend the lead, especially as Whittlesea’s effort diminished, but the 1 nil score line remained.
Under 21s – North Geelong 4 vs Whittlesea Zebras 3
The young Warriors were ebbing and flowing during their encounter with the Zebras. They probably should have been able to lock in the win a lot earlier, but allowed their opponents into the match. In all fairness they have been affected by the elevation of squad members into the seniors and to their credit they still managed to compile 4 goals in a weather affected match.
Goals to K.Edwards, J.Taravillo, N.Cook and D.Versace.
