BLUE LAKE V NARACOORTE
Blue Lake hosted Naracoorte full of confidence after beating Inter last week and although losing Grubb and Vujica who both sustained injuries from that game they were still favourites to take the points.
The game started in very windy conditions making at hard for both teams to settle down. Blue Lake settled the quickest and had an early chance when Phillips got onto a good cross but headed straight at the keeper. Soon after the Blues got on the board when a good shot from Thomson deceived the keeper and trickled into the back of the net.
Domaschenz was on fine form making some terrific runs from full back and setting up a number of chances in the middle with accurate crossing.
Naracoorte were struggling to keep pace with the Blues midfield and with the defence led by Strachan in a miserly mood Naracoorte chances were rare. Blue Lake could have gone two up when a terrific shot by Fulton was brilliantly tipped over by du Rand in goals, Naracoorte coach Amos was working tirelessly to spark something in the middle and against the run of play the chance nearly came with a mix up between Armandi and Strachan let Lopez in but the second effort from Armandi saved the day. Naracoorte had another chance soon after when Ahnadi rounded Armandi only to see Hanssen clear off the line. Just before half time the Blues went two up when Fulton had an easy tap in after a Reiner shot could only be deflected.
The second half saw Blue Lake take complete control of the game with the pace of Guess, Fulton and Thomson and with the back up of Walters, Phillips and Chatindiara putting constant pressure on Naracoorte. The chances were coming thick and fast in the first twenty minutes with some excellent build up play but the Blues couldn’t put their chances away and when Chatindiara finally did when was deemed to be off side. Finally the floodgates did open and with two more goals to Thomson to give him his hat trick and another to Guess the game lost its spark. Naracoorte were under pressure but Davies, Amos du Rand and young Blanck never gave up and fought it out to the final whistle.
