A Night of Inspiration
Over 70 people braved the cold to attend A Night of Inspiration with Katrina Webb last night at the Blue Lake Golf Links. The fundraiser to support the "Give Me 5 For Kids Campaign". Katrina inspired and motivated the crowd with her story and provided the opportunity for her medals to be passed amonst the crowd. We would like to thank Ewan Grant and Bill Burley for their support.

Give Me 5 For Kids Fundraiser
A Night of Inspiration, with Katrina Webb, a fundraiser for the "Give me 5 for kids" movement, will be held in Mount Gambier at 7:00 pm on Thursday, 11 June 2009. Give Me 5 For Kids is a movement aimed at raising funds for the children's ward at local hospitals.
The Mount Gambier fundraiser will feature Katrina Webb, who has represented Australia at 3 Paralympic Games.
Katrina's record is an impressive one, a record that would be envied by any sports person.
1994 all Australian Netball Squad 17 & under
1995 Australian Institute of Sport Netball Scholarship
1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games: Gold 100m, Gold 200m, Silver Long Jump
2000 Sydney Paralympic Games: Silver 400m, Silver 100m and Bronze 200m
2004 Athens Paralympic Games: Gold 400m and Paralympic Record
Her life story is just as dramatic. When she was 18 on a netball scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport, Katrina discovered that a weakness on her right side was a mild case of Cerebral Palsy (CP). Something she had known since birth but, because she was not sure what it was and is not obvious, she found it easier to hide.
With the discovery of her CP, Katrina realised that she was eligible to compete at the Paralympic Games. A difficult decision to make, Katrina decided to tackle her disability head on and take on the challenge.
At her first Paralympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, Katrina won a Gold Medal in the 100m and 200m sprint and a Silver medal in the Long Jump. At the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games Katrina had the honour of being the first torchbearer to enter the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony. She went on to win Silver in the 100m and 400m sprint and a Bronze Medal in the 200m sprint.
At the Athens Paralympic Games in 2004, Katrina won another Gold medal for the 400m sprint and set a new Paralympic Record. Katrina's success on the track has made her one of Australia's top performing Paralympic athletes.
Now one of Katrina's biggest rewards in her life has been to learn how to overcome her disability, love her uniqueness and celebrate her difference.
As a qualified physiotherapist and a person that knows how to achieve gold medal results more than once, Katrina specialises in 'Turning silver to Gold' and improving the performance and health of organisations, teams and individuals through keynote speaking, team building events and corporate health and wellbeing programs.
Katrina's success as an athlete and as a business woman has been recognised internationally, when she was one of four athletes selected from around the world to present at the closing ceremony of the United Nations International Year of Sport and Physical Education in New York in 2006.

SOCCER STAR VISITS REGION
Former Australian national goalkeeper and experienced European campaigner Peter Zois will visit the region this weekend as a guest of The Round Ball Community Football Development Program. Zois who has represented Australia at the World Youth Championships, under 20 level and was part of the 2000 Olympic squad has played alongside the likes of Lucas Neil, Brett Emerton and Vince Grella.
At club level his credentials are even more impressive as he Collected the Championship title with NAC Breda in 1999-2000 gaining promotion to the Ere-divisie (Holland’s top league), qualified to play the Intertoto cup with NAC Breda 2001-2002, qualified for the UEFA cup with NAC Breda after finishing fourth in the league 2002-2003, qualified to play the Intertoto cup with Willem II 2003-2004, reached the Dutch cup final with Willem II 2004-2005 and qualified for the UEFA cup with Willem II for reaching the Dutch cup final 2005-2006. His successful 9 year European career saw him graduate through the Victorian Institute of Sport, play and coach in Europe and develop professional relationships with some of the highest profile goalkeeping coaches in Europe. “ I have had a very fortunate career. I was lucky to enjoy a long European career and I am delighted to look back on my fixtures with the national team and playing in Europe with fond memories. I am still quite young and feel I have a lot to offer and working with The Round Ball is going to be a pleasure.” said Zois.
Director of Football at The Round Ball, Scott Dickson could not be happier as he spoke of the visit of Zois, “Peter has had a fantastic career and we are pleased that we have been able to secure his services. His playing experience will be of benefit to our more senior keepers however it is his coaching experience both here and abroad that is of real interest to me. He has worked with Queensland Roar‘s coaching staff, the coaching team from last years FA Cup winners Portsmouth and has assisted with Uhlsport Goalkeepers Clinics in Holland for the past 9 years”.
Zois will kick off his visit on Friday with the second in the Night of Inspiration series that saw Travis Dodd brought to the region by The Round Ball last year. “This night of Inspiration will have a different focus to last years however the message will be the same, Zois’ presentation will take place at Gambier Centrals Soccer Club due to nature of his playing and coaching experience and we are delighted to share this initiative with Centrals.” Dickson said. Doors will open at 6.30 and the presentation which will include a PowerPoint of photos and memorabilia collected over his career.
On Saturday and Sunday morning Zois’s attention will turn to the regions goalkeepers with sessions programmed for the day.
While in the region Zois will stay at The Blue Lake Holiday Park.
