For the second time Steplen Constructions has supported a Round Ball project. The Young Sharks Project saw 10 players from the Gambier City Sharks sponsored by Steplen Constructions. We would like to thank them for their kind support.

Mount Gambier's Community Football Development Program, the Round Ball will take on one of the highest regarded clubs for junior development in the nation when they head to Geelong this weekend. The Round Ball will lock horns with North Geelong Warriors and will take on their under 18 squad in a testing encounter.

CEO of The Round Ball program, Scott Dickson is very excited about the trip to Geelong and the opportunity that it will provide for his squad. "Our side has been training hard all summer and is keen to be challenged. we have some very talented juniors in our program and we are looking forward to taking on the Warriors". North Geelong will take part in the newly formed Metropolitan Melbourne Under 18 competition and will be a difficult challenge for the local outfit. "We are very realistic when it comes to this fixture. North Geelong are a very strong club and have developed some of the finest players to have played the game in Australia. Four Socceroos have come from the club and it was the only Australian club to have players from the club in the squad for two National teams at the 1996 Fifa World Cup. We all know that Josip Skoko developed as a player in North Geelong and in recent years both Cameron Hart and Callum Ferguson have both left the WBSA to join North." This will be the second time that The Round Ball has travelled to Geelong to take on The Warriors and the third time that they have visited Geelong."Last time we visited North Geelong we took on an under 17 side and we got over the top of them, this time we have a much younger side and it will be harder, however, this side has played together for quite a while now and I am quietly confident that they will do well. Vinko Buljubasic will coach the Warriors on the weekend and he played for Perth Glory and was a Socceroo and if we are fortunate Josip is keen to catch up with the boys"

On Sunday The Round Ball will field a younger under 16 side to take on the Breakwater Eagles, last seasons under 15 Geelong Champions. " We hosted the Eagles a fortnight ago and did very well. We beat them both times in Mount Gambier, but at home they will be a different prospect. They are keen to have another go at our side and we look forward to taking them on on Sunday. We are keen to give several of our younger boys a run and Jake Blackwell and Sam Shoemark will feature in our under 16 side"

The Round Ball has named Alex Bissell as captain of the under 18 side and Alex Sims to captain the under 16's.

HART ON THE WAY BACK

Cameron Hart is recovering in Mount Gambier after his ankle operation. He is keen to return and is set to be the first Round Ball graduate to become a Round Ball Legend.

Cameron Hart attended training on Thursday night to offer support to the EDP squad. The squad had a good hit out before the Apollo game with the largest attendance at training 19 players.

Hart was impressed with the work ethic of the squad and committed to a new Round Ball program set to be launched in the next few weeks.

Cameron Hart is currently recovering in Broome prior to the 2010 season at North Geelong.

He will return to training on January 5.

A nervous tension filled afternoon capped off with a title, well it couldn’t get any better, but it did.

In reserves action the boys went down in a 1 - 6 loss. Although not a result to hang your head on it was a game to watch as the Warriors lined up with the youngest reserves team all year, the squad contained youngsters from North Geelong’s Under 15A squad who will no doubt be looking forward to North Geelong having an Under 21 team next season in Division 1 as this served as a indication for them to see what it meant to play at that level.

In seniors action the Warriors began their match with nervous apprehension. Although they were dominating the Warriors shots and chances were sailing high and wide. Then mid way through the first half Matthew Demo got the better of his marker and rounded the keeper to slot in the first one of the afternoon. The immediate result was the lifting of the nerves, you could now sense the Warriors were out to play. A short while later crowd favourite Robert Zadworny latched onto a loose ball on the edge of the box to beat the defence and the keeper and it was 2 - 0. As half time loomed the crowd were is disbelief almost as if they couldn’t believe that if the day’s results went the right way the Warriors were actually looking at promotion. Phone calls from fans to Ballarat were being made to see how Thomastown and Ballarat were going. At half time the news filtered out that Ballarat was up 1-0.

The second half saw a relaxed Warriors side compile some slick moves and slowly and comfortably piled on another three goals courtesy of Cervinski, Demo and capped off with clinical finish from Kuna. Just before full time the heavens opened up as if to say to it’s time. Final result from Ballarat came in and it was Ballarat who prevailed over Thomastown which meant North Geelong Warriors are effectively champions for 2009. Scenes of jubilation and merriment began to unfold with players and supporters forming a huge circle on the pitch to sing the club song followed by a avalanche of supporters joining the team in the dressing rooms for a rendition of the club song which would have rocked the foundations.

It’s been a tough slog with many twists and turns through the year. With losing players for lengthy patches through the year the squad held firm and showed true grit to three times this season notch up patches of 3 or 4 wins on the trot to put distance between themselves and the other title chasers. The Warriors remained confident and backed themselves to achieve the ultimate prize for the year, the Division 2 title. North Geelong Warriors will be playing in Division 1 in 2010 and we look forward to seeing the run out in the state’s second highest league.

Next Saturday 5th of September the Warriors final game for 2009 is away to Altona East. Come along to support like you have all year and let’s end on a big high. Afterwards we’re heading to our major sponsor The Dom - Australian Croatian Association, Separation St Bell Park to celebrate the end of a rewarding season, so if you’re around pop in and join in the festivities.

In further good news our Under 15A boys beat Green Gully 1 - 0 to put themselves into Superleague for Under16s in 2010. Congratulations boys we can’t wait to see you playing at the highest level it is a reward to you, your coach Tam and Manager Sime as well your families for their dedication to your success. The Young Warriors will be at home on Father’s Day, 6th of September where the club will be having it’s monthly lunch, so come along and enjoy a great day out for Father’s Day as well as capping off the boys season with a win.

Our Juniors have done extremely well this year, including the Under 11 team who are running in second and take on ladder leader Altona City next week, a win will see them take second position as Altona have a superior goal difference. Our other junior squads in the GRFA competitions have all had great years and we’re proud of them and their coaches for putting in and getting the results.

Cameron Hart is set to make his first team debut for North Geelong Warriors this weekend after setting the club on fire with two startling performances in the last fortnight. Hart’s debut, set tongues wagging as the former Gambier Centrals star scored after just four minutes. Hart, who after a short stint at the Gambier City Sharks moved to Gambier Centrals as a nine year old.
Hart was spotted in Melbourne during the trials for the reality television show “Football Superstar” by Ante Skoko brother of Mount Gambier’s only Socceroo Josip Skoko on the invitation of The Round Ball’s Scott Dickson and Gambier Centrals President Shane Dycer couldn’t be happier for his former star. “As a club we are delighted for Cameron. He has worked hard and deserves this opportunity”. “We are keen to see our players progress and play at the highest level, the season is only at its halfway point and we have Cameron in the first team at North Geelong, Thomas Renzi made the top 15 in Football Superstar and our under 15 boys took part in the Manchester United Cup at the start of the year in Adelaide. We are doing well in all grades and this link with North Geelong can only strengthen our standing in the Football Family”.
Hart signed for Centrals as an under 11 and even at that young age his ability with the soccer ball was evident. Hart went on to score over 50 goals in his first season at the club. In 2002 Hart went on to win the first of his three consecutive under 14 best and fairest awards as well as league player of the year in 2003 and 2004. Hart then took out the under 17 best and fairest awards at Centrals in 2006 and 2007 with 2006 marking his debut in the senior squad. “Cameron made a huge impact as a 15 year old. I was amazed by the way Hart played the ball against players who were more seasoned both physically and mentally”. He was a vital part of the Western Border side that dominated both State and Country Championships, toured England with the under 14 state squad and was integral to the success of the Grant High School Specialist Program that competed in four state finals in a row and toured Queensland in 2005.
At Centrals Hart went on to finish second in the clubs A Grade medal count at 16, become vice captain in his first senior year, win the Dickson/De Tot award for Inspiration in 2006 and return from injury in 2008 to play an integral role in Centrals cup victory over International. In his nine years at Bishop Road Cameron played in the 2004 under 14 and 2006 under 17 Premiership wins, three Top Four Cup wins and five end of season cup victories.
The fact that Hart has followed the same path of Mount Gambier’s finest soccer export Josip Skoko is no coincidence and has not been missed by followers of the round ball. “Josip played at Bishop Road and then moved to Geelong and played for North Geelong, that is the same path that Cameron has now made” commented Director of The Round Ball, Scott Dickson. “We are very fortunate to have the support of Josip and his family and they are very keen to help out. I invited Ante, Josip’s brother to attend the Football Superstar trials and support the boys and when they saw Cameron they were keen to see some more. They were very impressed with all three boys we took over to the trials and have been very helpful in offering support to The Round Ball. We have made several trips to Geelong and they have provided a great deal of coaching support for our programs” Dickson added.
The transfer of Hart has the potential to benefit all those associated with him as the credit for his talents looks set to be rewarded by his new club “Cameron is a very good player and we are delighted that he has signed. We are keen to forge a relationship with Gambier Centrals and look forward to this developing. As for The Round Ball we cannot speak more highly of their work. We will support them in any way we can. We have a wide range of connections in the world of football and they are now all at the disposal of Scott and his coaching staff. We have attended his training sessions and observed his squads, they are very, very good and we look forward to working with them again” stated North Geelong Warriors committee member Ante Didulica.
“As far as Cameron is concerned we are very happy with his progress, he made a dream start in the reserves scoring in the first four minutes and played well. He is training with our elite development squad under the guidance of Ante Skoko and if he continues to perform the way he is going at the moment he will force his way into the seniors. The rest is up to Cameron, he has the potential to do very well and at this stage is exceeding the expectations we had of him” Ante Didulica concluded.

Earlier in the afternoon we saw the reserves continue with their improvement and notched up an emphatic 4 –1 win. Opening the scoring was debutant and Football Superstar finalist from Mount Gambier, Cameron Hart. Welcome to the Warriors, Cameron. The reserves gelled well all game and got away to a 2 goal lead in quick time before a long range effort from Werribee brought them back into the game, however the Warriors held firm and patiently built up their attacks for the remainder of the game to slot two more and take them to mid table.
