Blue Lake under 17's are back!

Its with great excitement that we announce that Lewis Ferguson has been successful in applying for the U17's coaching position for season 2012.

Lewis of course has been coaching our under 14’s for the last couple of years and is ready for the next challenge of coaching.

The Blue Lake committee have acted very early this year to make sure that the Rangers didn't go without the key junior side for a third straight year.

From a club point of view this year has been very difficult for our senior sides. We haven't had the luxury that other clubs have had to call on their juniors if needed. This lack of youth has been noted and we are now moving forward to make sure that the club continues to perform and grow.

The committee was happy to accept the application from Lew as he is well known within the footballing (soccer) community of the WBSA and his wealth of experience and knowledge that he brings to the position will prove to be a huge asset to our under 17's. We know that Lewis will also correctly prepare them for senior football (soccer).

BLUE LAKE ON THE HUNT

The Blue Lake Soccer Club would like to announce that the club will be participating in the under 17’s competition this year.

The club has appointed Andrew Armandi as head coach with Joe Dunning as his assistant. All players who are currently looking for a club in this age bracket are urged to come and see what Blue lake is all about.

Training will be held every Wednesday night at 5:30pm at Malseed Park. There is a voluntary training session that the players are invited to attend that is run in conjunction with the senior sides on Thursday nights 6 PM SHARP.

Blue Lake v Sharks‏

The crucial cup match between Blue Lake and the Sharks at Malseed Park was always going to be an entertaining match with a semi final berth at stake.
The game started at a frenetic pace and it wasn’t long before Blue Lake had a golden opportunity to take an early lead when Fulton was fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded to the Blues. Thomson stepped up but unfortunately hit the ball wide of the mark. It didn’t take long for them to atone for this when a long ball from Guess found the in form Vujica who twisted and turned the Sharks defence and just when it seemed his chance was gone he slammed the ball into the Sharks net giving Fuller no chance. Sharks were forced to make a substitution when Damien Stemberger seemed to lose control and Bruttomesso was forced to replace him with Bytheway. This seemed to spur the Sharks into action and the pace of Weistra was starting to worry the Blues. In a short space of time Weistra had a terrific shot saved by Armandi and then Kennett missed a sitter. The Blues defence settled and tight play ensured that the Sharks could only take long shots which were never going to trouble Armandi in goals.

The second half started with Blue Lake playing much better than in the first and were making constant forays into the Sharks defensive line, however the defence of Widdison, Nunan and Nzeakor were keeping them at bay. The Blues nearly increased their lead when a well executed free caused a mix up between Fuller and Nzeakor saw the ball bounce fall free but it was finally cleared by Widdison. The game was turned on its head in a five minute spurt when Weistra was fouled in the box and he slotted home the penalty to level the scores. Four minutes later Kennett scored an unbelievable free kick from outside the box with a thunderous shot off the post and into the net to put the Sharks in front for the first time. The Blues stepped it up a notch and when Gordon from the Sharks was given a red card for a second yellow card offence the Sharks were under pressure to hold on. The Blues made many chances to draw level but poor finishing combined with excellent goalkeeping by Fuller saw the Sharks run out winners by two goals to one.

BLUE LAKE v PORTLAND

Blue Lake hosted Portland hoping to get a win to keep them in touch with the leading group, Portland on the other hand have shown improvement over the last couple of weeks and would have gone into the game with the hope of taking at least a point back to Victoria.
Blue Lake started like a house on fire and could have been two up in the first ten minutes when Thomson had two good chances but failed to convert. The Blues midfield were well on top and some slick passing in the first half hour gave them plenty of confidence, but the reward for all this possession was zilch due to not being able to break through the Portland defence and (especially)Boers in goals. While they were controlling the midfield Portland was still able to make quick breaks and threatened to score against the run of play with the skilful Atoairesei causing problems and with the help of Chapman was keen to take advantage of the fact the Blues could not score. Only a brilliant save from Armandi stopped Atoairesei from the first goal after a terrific shot. The game started to lose its intensity at this stage but livened up after a good cross by Guess caused a defensive error by Portland and left Chatindiara with a tap in to finally open the account.

The second half started as the first had finished with a very lack lustre display. Blue Lake were still dominating possession but were unable to break through the last line with Hatton, Miller and goal keeper Boers all playing very well. Reiner for the Blues who scored his first A Grade goals the week before was very unlucky not to add two more with excellent headers only to see the agile Boers in goals make two terrific saves. The Blues would have been concerned that a one goal buffer was not going to be enough as Portland were always threatening to get a quick break and levelling the game but the leadership of Strachan at the back kept the forwards at bay. The game was finally put out of Portlands reach when a great ball through to Vujica from Thomson allowed the youngster to turn his man and hit a cracking shot into the back of the net.
The game petered out after this and gave the Blues the win they needed, however if they are to match it with the teams above them they need to improve on both their intensity and their goal scoring, Portland would not be happy going home without any points but coach Gerritsen would be reasonably happy that his side is improving and the signs are there for them to improve even further as the season continues.
