Footballtricks.com -Throw ins waste time‏

Hello Everyone,

I love the game but one of the things that always raises my blood pressure watching young players play is throw ins. Read the attached article to hear my views. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts as often I find that coaches and parents have not thought about why but just follow the rules of the game. I say don't worry about the rules so much.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Let’s Just Relax about Throw Ins

Hypothetically speaking what if I was to offer you a challenge I would give you free tickets, travel and accommodation to this year‟s Champions League Final if you could teach, in 10 minutes, a 15 year old who has never played the game before to
A) Take 5 correct throw ins in a row
Or
B) Hit 5 corner kicks near the penalty spot in a row
Which one would you choose Option A or Option B?
I think most people would choose Option A for the simple reason that you would almost certainly win if you did as it is quite easy for a 15 year old to learn the „Throw In‟ technique and the rules within a short time.
Obviously it is a lot harder for younger players to co-ordinate their hands and feet plus throw the ball accurately because I have attended many youth games (12 and under) were the action has been held up because of foul throw ins. Sometimes play has been held up for a couple of minutes while the players continually take foul throw ins and the referee has following the letter of the law has called them repeatedly.
This issue really annoys me but for me to fully explain why it does I think I need to explain myself. Have you ever asked yourself why we throw the ball back in not kick it? At no other time in a game can an outfield player touch the ball with their hands so why can they do it for a throw in.
A throw in happens when the ball goes out of play on the sides of the pitch. No one has committed a foul in fact the majority of the time the ball goes out of play by accident. If you could kick the ball in then you could kick the ball a long distance from where it went out of play. The original law makers of the game thought that it was unfair that one team should be able to get such a territorial advantage when the other team had not done anything wrong. To limit the distance the ball could travel from where the ball went out they made a rule that the ball had to be thrown in.
If you look at all the rules of a throw in they are all basically put in place to limit the distance an adult can throw the ball from where it went out so that one team does not get an unfair territorial advantage over the other.
Now I can explain why foul throw ins annoy me so much in the youth game. The vast majority of foul throw ins we see are because of a technical breech of these limiting rules than for someone actually trying to gain an unfair advantage.
The young players simply have not got the physical strength to gain an unfair territorial advantage no matter how they throw the ball so why not just let the game continue as long as the player attempted to do it correctly. We never stop the game if a player does any other technique poorly. I have never seen a referee blow the whistle because a player did a poorly executed pass and ask for it to be retaken.
It drives me mad when I see coaches wasting precious time at training sessions on throw ins and hear people say “They have to learn to do it properly some time” when like I wrote at the top of the article most of you probably feel confident you could teach a 15 year old who has never played before in 10 minutes how to take a throw in. Coaches feel they have to do this because during games the players are constantly pulled up on it. I feel we shouldn‟t be too worried about foul throw ins until the players are old enough to actually throw the ball a distance were an advantage can be gained.
I am not saying that we need to change the rules but think we need to understand the spirit of those rules and if no advantage was gained then what does it matter. Don‟t worry about a young player having a toe on the sideline or little Jennifer lifting her foot an inch off the ground. Just get the ball back into play and let the players play.
I refereed a school tournament last year which had lots of players new to the game playing and before every game I said to the two coaches I am not going to give any foul throw ins no matter how poor the technique if they tried to do it correctly and the ball went less than 10m. There was a huge number of foul throw ins and it made absolutely no difference to the score of any of the games.
Please email me at info@footballtricks.com if you think this article make sense or is the biggest load of rubbish you have ever read.

SEAN D'ARCY AKA THE FOOTBALL JUGGLER SAYS HI TO THE TOTS

Football is a great game because everyone is equal. The best player in the world can be any shape or any size or anybody. Will it be you who grows up to be the World's Best Player.

Sean

My name is Sean and I was born in Birkenhead , England but I now live Perth , Western Australia .

I was born with a hip condition called Perthes Disease. This stunted the growth of my left leg and by the age of eight began causing a pronounced limp. To rectify this I was in hospital for a year and then on leg calipers for a further two years. Although my legs are now the same length I have been left with restricted movement in my hips and prolonged running is painful. By the time I was nineteen I had to give up playing football entirely as I was causing further damage to my hips.

Obviously my love for football was not diminished just my ability to play the game. As a player one of my strengths was my good ball control and I was always interested in doing football tricks. Inspired myself by a display put on by Argentinian Schoolboys I saw on television during the World Cup in 1978. Almost by accident a few years after giving up playing I discovered that doing tricks was not as painful as playing. Where I lived at the time had no garden so I had to go to the local park to kick a ball. I soon realised that doing tricks is like a magnet. Often I would spend most of the time teaching total strangers how to do football tricks.

Gradually it dawned on me that although many people wanted to learn how to do tricks. There was no way to do this except be shown by another footballer. So my wife and I decided we would document all the tricks we knew and explain how they were done. After much trial and error we developed a system and two years later produced our first video 'Tricks of the Trade' in conjunction with the Perth Glory Soccer Club. As far as I know the first ever football tricks video ever produced.

An unexpected side effect of the release of the video was that I was asked to do trick demonstrations and teach tricks at football camps all over Perth . I did my first ever half time entertainment during a Perth Glory game before a crowd of 18,000 people. From this point I had a real stroke of fortune I was spotted doing a display and I ended up as an official football entertainer at the Olympic Games in Sydney . I performed tricks outside the Sydney Football Stadium for the entire Olympics.

About this time I began to plan that one day I might be able to make this my full time profession. We expanded our horizons and began to look overseas. I have now completed two separate three month contracts with the Football Association of Ireland teaching football tricks at their summer camps and I have performed in England at the Opening of the City of Manchester Stadium . We have completed a second video and have two more in the pipeline.

It was always my dream to be a professional footballer and now through some luck and plenty of hard work I have managed to become involved in football full time which for me is the next best thing. We hope to continue to travel to all parts of the world teaching football tricks. If you would like to enquire about us coming to your part of the world then email us at info@footballtricks.com.

Footballtricks.com - New SSG eBook‏

Hello,
The fantastic SSG eBook has been a huge success with many coaches and players agreeing that the new lower eBook price makes it unbelievable value. I have no problem at all encouraging people to use SSGs as I use them constantly in my training and I believe totally in the benefits they can bring.

SSGs both technically improve players and give them 'game sense' at the same time. We just don't have enough time with our players to waste anytime we have.

The SSG eBook can be purchased for AUD$10 (which is less than 10 US Dollars or 6 British Pounds) from FootballTricks.Com (which is fully secure). The SSG eBook will be delivered to your inbox within hours so you can use it at your next training session.

I sent you a free sample a few weeks ago but if you want another one then email info@footballtricks.com
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks
Sean

I have really enjoyed writing this fantastic eBook as I use SSGs constantly in my training and I believe totally in the benefits they can bring. I have attached a sample so you can see for yourself exactly what I mean.

GREAT SPEECH

Hello Guys,

I was recently looking at a website and it had a link to a speech by an ice hockey coach on it. It said quite simply 'this is the best speech you will hear about coaching no matter what sport you coach'. I have to agree with them as this speech is basically my philosophy on youth coaching in a nutshell.

Here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFsF0Z9EKDg

The only part I disagreed with is when he spoke about genetics. In our game you can be any size and be the best but I would love to hear your views info@footballtricks.com

Volunteer Coaching - Survivor's Guide 6 - 12 Years

Hello Everyone,

I have not sent out a newsletter for a while because I have been busy with an exciting new project. I have been writing an eBook called 'Volunteer Coaching - Survivor's Guide 6 - 12 Years'. It has been written for the 1,000's of coaches who volunteered or who are 'volunteered' to be the coach of their child's team and then realise they have a whole season of training sessions to do and are not sure how to fill them.
This terrific eBook takes away the worry of having to teach the players how to play. Instead you allow the fun games explained in the eBook to teach the players all they need to know. The coach simply has to organise the games and everything takes care of itself. Each game is explained clearly plus there are tips for how you can make the games even more fun, what to watch for so that nobody gets hurt and how to nip any discipline problems in the bud.
I have attached a sample and please feel free to forward it on to anyone you think would be interested.
'Voluteer Coaching - Survivor's Guide 6 - 12 Years' is available right now online at http://www.footballtricks.com/eBooks.aspx and can be emailed straight to you within hours for the incredible low price of just 17.50 US Dollars, 11.90 British pounds, 12.90 Euros or 25 Australian Dollars. Terrific value for enough ideas to fill every training session for the whole season.

Thanks

Sean's Welcome

Hello bloggers,

I want to write a nice welcome message but so far everything I have tried to write sounds a bit rude. I started with welcome round ball bloggers but I'm sure 10 years ago I would have got arrested on indecency laws for saying that. Then I changed it to lets get blogging but that didn't sound right either. So I've decided to just write what I think "if you love football BLOG ON."

Sean

Footballtricks

I have included the first email of the year from Sean D'Arcy, the Football Juggler from WA for you to have a look at. He has a great understanding on the game and is a supportive follower of The Round Ball.

Hello,

Welcome to 2009 from FootballTricks.Com. I have attached an article to start off the year with a discussion about why the results of most youth games are meaningless and I am interested to see what you think about it. You can have your say either by emailing me info@footballtricks.com or going on the forum.

Go out and check out the new forum by the way. I have had it upgraded again so go and check out the new features on http://community.footballtricks.com/forums/default.aspx

At the moment I am busy writing a book for a UK publisher about Street Moves and after that I am planning to write a few E-Books that will be available online. So there is lots to look forward to in 2009.
