A GRADE MATCH REPORT
PORTLAND V GAMBIER CITY SHARKS
Sharks travelled to Portland with the Coach Ian Hill away and quite a few players missing from the line up., including Scott Murray, Terry Stevenson, Pramot Goldsworthy, John Stemberger, Damien Stemberger.
Sharks President Vic Gentile taking charge of the Seniors for the day.
After a massive lost from Inter last week, the Sharks needed to win to gain 3 points to remain in the Top 4 .
Even though the side was very depleted, the Sharks were fired up from a good win in the B Grade 9-1.
It only took (2 min) of the game for the Sharks to score their first goal which came from a corner taken by Lance Da Rocha, which found the Sharks captain Dino Gentile who easily headed the ball past the keeper.
Sharks remained confident moving the ball from defence through to midfield, using the width of the pitch.
Lance Da Rocha back in good form was finding himself in plenty of space where he continually was shooting for goal 20 yds out only to find woodwork, whether it be the post or crossbar.
Score could have easily been 4 or 5 by this time, but still remained at 1-0.
The next goal came at the (9min) mark, where Weistra found room out wide ,and with speed and skill he managed to get past the defenders with ease, and slot the ball comfortably into the net to give the Sharks their second goal.
The game was held up briefly allowing the referee George Weyers to receive treatment from the Sharks trainer.
Plenty of opportunities to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but unfortunately the ball kept finding the goal posts, cross bar, and any other woodwork surrounding the goals.
The Portland keeper was kept busy, keeping the Sharks from scoring.
Another opportunity when begging for the Sharks, when Lennon fired a cross towards the back post looking for Nunan, who unluckily was unable to make contact with ball.
At the (25min) mark, Weistra again let go of a 30 yd pole driver, which again hit the post, but Thomas was waiting and easily converted the rebounded ball to give the Sharks their 3 rd goal.
At the (28 min)Sharks received another corner, which again was taken by Lance Da Rocha, who found Lennon rising high to head the ball home. Score 4-0
The Sharks midfield of Marlow, Da Rocha, Gentile, Nunan were working hard all day feeding the forwards of Weistra & Thomas.
The defence of Widdison, Wright, Lennon and Minter were very solid again, not allowing Portland to threaten.
Sharks keeper Bytheway had a very quiet day, with only a half of dozen touches.
At the (37min), a good passage of play with Da Rocha & Weistra combining in a 1-2 pass, resulting in a perfectly timed cross again to find Lennon heading the ball home for his second goal of the day.Score 5-0.
The second half again sore many chances go begging.
The Portland team increased the number of defenders behind the ball congesting traffic not allowing any room at all for a path to goal.
Wright was moved to the forward line to assist Weistra to get more goals on the board, but credit to the Portland team, they kept the Sharks at bay.
The Sharks Coach Vic Gentile made some changes in the second half allowing for young Brayden Nunan (15)and Luke Harris (15)to make their debut in A grade, with Minter & Da Rocha coming off.
The final score remained 5-0

A GRADE MATCH REPORT
GAMBIER CENTRALS V BLUE LAKE
The game started at a furious pace with both sides trying to gain the advantage in the midfield, however it was Centrals who got an early goal when Tidy showed good skills and poise to drill a ball into the net to open the account for the home side. Minutes later they could have gone two up with a shot from Hart but Armandi was equal to it and saved. Blue Lake were slowly getting into the game and a good run forward almost produced the equaliser when both Ferguson and Guess had chances. The Blues were down to 10 men when Alex Domaschenz was off the pitch momentarily with the blood rule and Centrals took full control and were ripping the Blues to shreds through the middle of the ground. At the 19 minute mark the Blues paid the price for giving Kennett too much time on the ball and he slotted home the second goal. Blue Lake came into the game more and were making more attacking moves but Heemskerk , Wenham and co were repelling all attacks. 15 minutes before half time a corner taken by Thomson caused a mix up between Heemskerk and Koop in goals allowed Guess in who made no mistake. The Blues were spurred on by this and Thomson just missed the opportunity to level the scores. Hart was continually causing headaches for the Blues defence and caused a clumsy challenge that ended in a penalty to Centrals. Wenham stepped up and calmly slotted the ball home to give Centrals a 2 goal buffer again. Not to be outdone the Blues were back in it again when a long cross from Chatindiara was not dealt with and Thomson calmly headed in.
The second half started off at the same pace as the first finished with both teams fired up knowing the game was there to be taken. Hart, Kennett and Gordon were having a terrific tussle with Ferguson, McRostie and Guess in the midfield with neither one dominating. The equaliser almost came when Vujica beat the keeper from close in only to see Heemskerk clear off the line. There was plenty of goalmouth action with both sides creating and missing plenty of chances. It was Centrals who finally scored when a mistake by the Blues defence allowed the dangerous Hart in who made no mistake. Kennett scored his second and sealed the game when the Blues defence again failed to clear. The young Blue Lake side continued to battle on and some good work by McRostie allowed Ferguson in but the shot went wide. A free kick to Centrals almost went in when Heemskerk took it quickly from a long way out but Armandi tapped it over the bar. The game finished with Centrals winning 5 goals to 3
