A GRADE MATCH REPORTS
BLUE LAKE V APOLLO
The match between Blue Lake and Apollo started in near perfect conditions at Malseed Park. Apollo went into the game missing Luke Odgers and the Blues were down Armandi and youngster Beau Branstone. The game started at a good pace with quick passing a feature. Blue Lake had the first partial chance when Strachan was fouled on the edge of the box, but the free kick taken by Ferguson was slammed into the wall, Thomson and Chatindiara wer creating some fine moves but the defence with Byetheway and Johnston were equal to the task. Another bad tackle on Strachan earned a yellow card for Marcus Wallace. Twenty minutes into the game Stewy Wallis was fouled giving Apollo a free just outside their penalty area. Matty Ripper took the free but a well placed Davison in goals saved comfortably. Apollo started to get the upper hand in the midfield and when a chance fell to Hodge he hit a thundering shot which brought out o terrific save by Davison. The young Blues backline of Domaschenz, Reiner, Blair Branstone and McRostie were repelling all attacks and causing the Apollo forwards to shoot from long range. A quick counter attack with Guess passing to Chatindiara would have broken the deadlock but for some great defending by Johnston. Successive shots after good build ups to firstly Hodge and then Wallis threatened to break the Blues defence but both sots went wide. Just before half time Apollo earned a second yellow card, this time to Stenner as tempers started to flare. Apollo almost conceded a goal when a shot was cleared off the last line by the reliable Byetheway. At half time the scores were locked at 0-0.
Blue Lake started the second half with an attacking frame of mind and was unlucky not to go ahead when both Guess an Ferguson had one on ones with Smith in goal, although the first one missed the target the second was brilliantly saved by Smith. Apollo settled, and once more started to have the better of the midfield duel with Stenner, Prentice and Hancock working well. After a good build up Wallis found some space on the right hand side and hit a well placed powerful shot just wide of Davison to the delight of the Apollo crowd. It should have been two nil minutes later when Stenner put the ball over the bar with only Davison to beat after a good solo run. The Blues took advantage of this and were on level terms soon after when they were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge by Hancock on Ferguson. Ferguson calmly slotted home. The game fired up again and both teams were working hard to try and gain the points. It was Blue Lake who looked like taking the lead when excellent work allowed Strachan and Guess to have shots with only the keeper to beat but both shot wide, however when a long cross from Guess found Ferguson in the box he made sure with a superb header to give the Blues the lead. Both coaches were making changes as players were tiring and Apollo were throwing everything they had to get an equaliser. It was through Wallis again that they found it when another fine effort this time from the left smashed the ball home. For the last 5 minutes or so it was nail biting stuff as both sides tried to get the winner and although they had chances they had to be content with a draw.

Da Rocha had an immediate impact, as he was awarded a penalty when fouled inside the box.
Sharks sharp shooter Lennon, made no mistake in converting Sharks first goal, and this rejuvenated the team eager to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Highlights of the match was Brayden Nunan (only 15years old), was awarded best player in his efforts , especially when he looked like scoring his first A Grade goal, when he took a shot at goal only to hit the far post. All his team mates congratulated him on a very good performance, especially being so young, but extremely talented.
Lennon again from 25yds out, almost scored a set shot when he blasted the ball for a certain goal, but only managed to deflect off the cross bar.
Sharks keeper Wil Bytheway, kept a clean sheet thanks to his efforts in goal, and the support from his defenders including his brother Brendan Bytheway.
Brothers Jeremy Nunan and Brayden Nunan also contributed to the team’s win.
With Terry Stevenson and Craig Wright missing from defence, Sharks utility players Josh Thomas and Heath Widdison held very strong to keep Naracoorte from scoring.

PORTLAND V GAMBIER CENTRALS
Portland played Centrals in round 1 of the Shadows / Belgiorno Cup on Sunday at Portland.
The Portland team didnt go into the game with high expectations after last weeks belting by the ladder leaders International. Centrals are the hot favourites to take out Group B in the Cup rounds, being second placed on the premiership ladder.
Portland obviously worked hard on their team play during the week and with no major changes in their line up from their clash with International last week they were able to keep the scoreline to a respectable 6 - 0 loss.
In the second round of the Cup next week, Portland take on Blue Lake at Portland in what promises to be a hard fought game, as both teams work hard to try to record their first win in the cup rounds.
