League leaders Inter hosted Blue Lake in a top versus fourth contest in round 11 of the Western Border Soccer Association Competition.
The game started at a brisk pace with both teams working hard. It was Inter who had the first opportunity when the in form Christian Cella had a terrific long range shot which hit the cross bar. Minutes later Joel Redfern also had a shot but hit it well wide. Callum Ferguson put a through ball to Tristan Guess but his cross was easily caught by Brett Reid in goals.
Inter were playing the ball well from the backline through the midfield and scored after combination of passes with Marcus Morony, Dante Bonner and Redfern found Adam Osman who hit a thunderous left foot shot into the back of the net.
Blue Lake had a good chance when Guess made another good run and whipped his cross in but Ferguson couldn't get his shot off. Cella almost gave Inter a two goal lead just before half time but his chip just cleared the bar.
The midfield battle hotted up in the second half and Blue Lake was unlucky not to equalise when a Mitchell Thomson free kick almost found Walter Chatindiara at the back post.
The pace was as furious as some of the tackles as the game threatened to get out of control. There were numerous chances from free kicks awarded just outside the 18 yard box. Inter were looking the more likely to score with consecutive shots from Morony, Osman and Cella but the Blues defence led by Blair Branstone held firm and when cleared they threatened to catch Inter on the rebound.
Inter looked to take control when Adam Craig passed into Dave Galloway and he put the ball away with clinical precision. Blue Lake seemed to lift after this and good work from Guess, Thomson and Ferguson created three chances which couldn't be taken. The Blues had the opportunity to get back into the game when Robbie Manfrin was deemed to have infringed in the box and the referee gave a penalty. Bryce Strachan stepped up but a great save by Reid snuffed out any chance of a comeback..
Tempers flared as the tackles heated up and an altercation between Strachan and Redfern resulted in a yellow card to Strachan and a red to Redfern. Blue Lake could not take advantage of this and Inter held out for a deserved 2-0 win.
Following Gambier Centrals come back to form to beat Apollo 2-1, Inter now look like they have a firm hold on the Premiership cup.
