Foundation 23

The Round Ball is throwing its weight behind Foundation 23 the charity run by Liverpool vice captain Jamie Carragher. After a phone call from Jamie's Dad Phil on Thursday night, it was confirmed that The Round Ball would become an Ambassodor for Foundation 23 and would help spread the word of the goals of the foundation.
WHAT IS FOUNDATION 23?
The 23 foundation encourages the youth of Merseyside to actively reach for their dreams by following their sporting interests. By providing a framework for achieving their goals, the Merseyside community - of which Jamie himself is very much a part of - can develop more confident, well rounded individuals.
In giving children a reason and also the means to express their talents we can show them there are many ways to succeed on a personal and career level by being part of a team. So its no surprise therefore that the idea of “we” is a very important part of what the 23 foundation does, as our founder and patron Jamie Carragher explains,
"Being part of a team and achieving something together is much more satisfying and I know without the help of my team and teams I grew up with I would not have become the individual I am today. At the 23 foundation we promote the idea of “we” and “us” because together as a community and with help from people like you reading this, we can accomplish anything.
WHY IS THE ROUND BALL SUPPORTING IT?
Its goals are very similar to ours, to support the development of well rounded individuals that are confident and able to contribute to the society that hail from.
The Round Ball is a "team" that can unite to support this cause and in doing so strengthen our own "team" and community.
HOW WILL TRB SUPPORT FOUNDATION 23?
Initially we will endevour to spread information about Foundation 23 and what it is doing. We will direct people to the site and will attempt to link our fundraising to the foundation.
WHY AN OVERSEAS CHARITY?
A couple of reasons.
1. To highlight that football is clearly global and that issues of this nature are not isolated.
2. To highlight the work of Jamie and others like him. Too often we are bombarded with negative stereotypes of sportsstars and other role models, this is a positive initiative from a truely global star to give back to his local community. He has had one club, his home team for life, is passionate and dedicated and could be a worthy role model for the juniors in our academy to look up to.
WILL YOU BE SUPPORTING A LOCAL CHARITY?
Yes we will. Over the next few weeks we will be working with several local organisations to find a local charity to support. Last year we supported the WALK AROUND THE LAKE initiative conducted by Blue Lake Soccer Club.
The end point we would like to achieve is one local and one global charity that we support per year.
