SHARKS PRESS RELEASE
PROVIDED BY JOHN BRUTTOMESO
The game started at a very fast pace
Both teams had there chances on goal, however good goalkeeping kept the match very even.
Sharks defence of Widdison, Adesanmi,Nzeakor & Bytheway were kept very busy, as the Apollo forwards could not find space to penetrate the backline.
The best on ground performance from the Sharks midfielders of Kennett & Gordon, who worked so tirelessly all game to create many chances for their forwards and work back to help their defence
Matt Weistra also looked dangerous early in the game, but could not manage to find that space and was unable to get a clear shot away.
Sharks forwards of Bruttomesso & Stemberger were working hard to put pressure on the Apollo defense, and on occasion found the ball in front of goal, but still could not get the score on the board.
An early change for Apollo, bringing Stevenson on, to help create some movement in the midfield, but it was Gordon who met this challenge, and gave Stevenson no room to move.
The first goal was awarded to Apollo (35min)when the ball was apparently kicked out of the keepers hand and over the line.
Sharks players were furious of this decision, but the referee’s vision was blocked and could not see through the crowded penalty area.
A barrage of Apollo attacks came through, wave after wave, but the Sharks Nigerian born pair of Adesanmi & Nzeakor held strong in defence with Fuller pulling of some amazing saves to keep the Sharks in the match.
Half time score was 1-0.
Sharks coach Bruttomesso was reasonalbly happy with the first half performance even that they were 1-0 down, however they were still in the game.
Unfortunately for the Sharks, Stemberger was feeling ill and needed to be replaced by Burmese player Eh Mwee.
Apollo coach Fersuson bought on Chris Bytheway in the second half to try and change the momentum of the game, but Sharks captain Widdison was also equal to the challenge.
Young U17 Brayden Nunan continued on his recent form, and was given another spot due to the long list of injuries to the Sharks line up.
Sharks keeper Fuller was keeping the crowd entertained, as he continued to pull of some high flying saves, which denied Apollo any more goals.
Sharks had their fair share of attacks, and at one point during the game, and unexpected ball came to Bruttomesso across the face of goal inside the 6 yd box, but he couldn’t manage to get a touch on the ball, and another goal for the Sharks went begging.
Weistra was also in the hunt for goals, but Apollo’s defence was too good and denied the youngster any more goals to his tally for this year.
Time was slowly running out, and Coach Bruttomesso decided to make a substitution bringing Sebastiano Bruttomesso off and replace him with another Burmese player Hpa Eh.
With only minutes to go, Bruttomesso made another by bringing on Andy Gentile for youngster Brayden Nunan, and by now the final whistle should have been blown.
Within seconds of the change, Apollo Stuart Wallace, found some space on the left, crossed the ball into the box, and it was Stevenson who sealed the game for Apollo, with a tremendous diving header that left no chance for Fuller to save.
The ball was returned to the centre, then the final whistle blew. Final score 2-0 to Apollo.
