THE ROUND BALL
FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR
Do you think you have what it takes to be Australia's next FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR and follow in the footsteps of local Ex Socceroo Josip Skoko?
In an ambitious move The Round Ball Community Football Development Program is throwing down the challenge to local soccer players by hosting a local trail for the highly successful Fox 8 Football Superstar reality television show.
The competition is the brainchild of local football enthusiast Scott Dickson and the prize on offer is an all expenses fully paid trip to Adelaide to compete in the South Australian trials of Football Superstar, provided by local construction company Steplen Constructions.
Dickson is quick to point out that this opportunity could turn into a dream for the local winners, he went on to say
“Football is truly the world game and it is about rising against the odds. There is no reason why our players should not be able to match it with the best players in the state and this opportunity will provide the chance for three local stars to have a go”
The trail day has been set for Sunday the 22nd of March and it will be held at Grant High School starting at 10 am and is open to all interested soccer players across the region between the ages of 16 and 20.
Steplen Constructions will kit out the winners and fund their travel and accommodation to Adelaide for the South Australian trails and Owner of Steplen Constructions, Steven Smith is not only keen to see which players will progress, he is keen to see how they will go in Adelaide “We have some fantastic soccer players down here and as individuals I have no doubt that they can match it to their Adelaide counterparts. As representative teams in the past we have struggled, however, over the past ten years we have had 4 male state representatives and 5 female representatives selected across the region. We have shown that we are able to produce players of a very high individual standard”
The trials will comprise similar drills to last years selection trials used on the show and Dickson is keen to test local players out on the day “We have been preparing for quite a while now and I am sure the players on trial will find the day a challenge. We are keen to provide a range of activities that will enable the boys to compete against each other over the duration of the day.”
The pre-trail has the backing of the production company North One TV and series producer Marty Benson was keen to highlight ...
"Football Superstar is delighted by this initiative in Mt Gambier and looks forward to welcoming the top three players to Adelaide to see if they’ve got what it takes to make it to the final 50 weekend in Melbourne, where Victory FC coach Ernie Merrick will select 15 boys to train with his team for one month. Who knows? The winner of this year’s Football Superstar could be from Mt Gambier,”
The 3 players with the highest points at the end of the day will win a scholarship to the Adelaide final the following Sunday March 29. The prize on offer will include travel vouchers, hotel accomodation, meal vouchers and a fully sponsored Round Ball kit to travel in. For more information go to http://www.fox8.tv/.
