Results of Round 2 games for the South East Womens Football Association
SEWFA Seniors
City 7-0 County
Palace 13-0 Portland
United 3-0 Villa
Millicent 0-11 Wanderers
There were goals galore in the South East Women’s Football Association last weekend. In the first senior match, City met County and continued on their match winning way. Their strength and experience overwhelmed County despite their tenacious defensive efforts. With County defenders including Shana Morgan working hard from the first whistle, it was just a matter of time before City found the net. With five before half time and a further two in the second half, including a powerful strike from midfielder Kim Gilbert, City will retain their top spot for now.
Final result: City 7 (J Smith 3, K Maczkowiack 2, K Gilbert, S Ielasi) d County 0
If Portland were feeling optimistic from their draw with County in Round 1, Palace soon brought them back to earth. The reigning premiers found cracks in Portland’s defence and did not hesitate to capitalise each time. With seven different goalscorers, including usual full back Claudia Addicott, Portland defence rallied by Donna Kilgour found it difficult to contain the onslaught of precision passing and lethal striking.
Final result: Palace 13 (J Hill 4, C Dickins 3, K Pedlar 2, C Addicott, K Tolner, G Tentye, J McCormick) d Portland 0
Wanderers travelled to Millicent with the obvious intent to return to their winning form and score plenty of goals. Millicent’s new young gun Wanita Robinson showed promise up front but could not convert. With three goals in the first half, Wanderers spirits and tempo lifted to continue the scoring. Kendall Saffin showed plenty of style and support for the goal scorers with her ability to read the play and hard running. Wanderers have shown they are back on track and have climbed back to fourth position on the ladder.
Villa were unable to field a complete squad this week and forfeited to United. A combined friendly was played in good spirit with Villa hoping to take to the pitch this week.
Result: United 3 d Villa 0 on forfeit
