A Grade match report
In good conditions the match started with both teams determined to get an early goal. Mitchell Thomson went close for Blue Lake but his shot was well saved by Colin Smith but it was Apollo who took the lead in the ninth minute when Matty Ripper hit a low cross which was dummied by Matthew Ferguson with Ash Stenner waiting to drill the ball into the bottom corner. Both backlines were playing well which was making the midfield play a game of patience with build ups being structured and players waiting their chance to break the last line. Apollo could have gone two up when young Matthew Ferguson was put through by Stenner but Andy Armadi pulled off a great save. The young Blues started to get back into the game and some fine play saw three or four good chances go begging with Callum Ferguson, Walter Chatindiara and Thomson all missing chances to score.
Apollo started the second half looking for the sealer and Stenner hit a good shot which was once again saved by Armandi. Both teams were working well in the build ups but the finishing was not to the same quality as the passing. Blue Lake were constantly making good opportunities only to see a combination of good goalkeeping and bad shooting prevent them from equalising, Apollo on the other hand were on top in the midfield but were forced to shoot from distance. With conditions deteriorating Blue Lake looked like they were going to equalise when Ferguson was found clear inside the box only to see his header go wide. Apollo was assured of all points when Hodge picked up a loose ball and hit a beautiful shot into the roof of the net. Blue Lake almost got a consolation goal late in the game but Ferguson was unlucky to see his shot go just wide of the mark.
Final score Apollo 2 Blue Lake 0.
