International 15 - 1 Gambier City Sharks
International took another step towards the 2009 Premiership when they easily overcome Gambier City Sharks 15 - 1 at Casadio Park on Sunday.
An undermanned Sharks outfit came out trying very hard to get something out of the season, but Inter were too strong all over the Park, not allowing their opponents to get into the game.
Christian Cella was dominant again, creating the first goal of the game for Andrew Ielasi, who was returning from injury. Andrew got better as the game progressed, by displaying his wide range of skills, setting up many chances and finding his rhythm, and finishing with 2 goals for the game.
This goal was closely followed 2 minutes later by their second to Marcus Morony. The Inter midfield again controlled the pace of the game, and with Marcus Morony, Dave Galloway and Dante Bonner creating many opportunities for their forwards, it wasn't long until Inter secured the game with goals to Barry McCoy, Marcus Morony and Christian Cella.
Marcus Morony finished a very successful game with a personal tally of 6 goals, and Christian Cella again proving to hard to handle ended the game with another hat trick.
Inter introduced 16 year old Sam Bueti in the second half for his first senior run, and he made it look easy, setting up goal scoring opportunities, and then being rewarded with scoring his first ever A Grade goal when he took a penalty kick.
From another penalty, Inter spread the scoring around, and gave goalkeeper Brett Reid the chance to score a rare goal for himself, which he did with aplomb.
Sharks were lead by creative playmaker Lance DaRocha who continued to try very hard, and against the run of play, Matt Weistra took on the Inter defence, and showing some individual class, beat Brett Reid in goals to give his team a consolation goal.
Dave Galloway continued his hard running all over the park, and was rewarded by scoring a goal to round off a very classy performance.
The game finished with Inter resting some of their players that played in Adelaide on Friday, in preparation for next week's game against Apollo.
Gambier Centrals 5 - 0 Naracoorte United
Portland 0 - 16 Apollo
Millicent United 0 - 1 Blue Lake
Blue Lake went into this game without inspirational captain Bryce Strachan who was unavailable due to the birth of his first child.
Both teams needed the win to secure fourth spot and it was Millicent who had the aid of a strong wind in the first half. Millicent were playing the ball swiftly through the midfield with good ball control and trying to get into their forward line, however they were finding it difficult to get through the Blue defence and were forced to push long balls and hope their strikers could run onto it.
The Blues were more creative and MiroVujica was unlucky not to score after good work from Mitchell Thomson. Blue Lake broke the deadlock when Walter Chatindiara hit a lovely chip which deceived Josh Lines in the Millicent goals.
Justin McRostie was working well in the midfield for Blue Lake and Callun Ferguson was continually threatening the Millicent defence which was well served by Gysbers, Robbins and Gardenier whether in the last line or the middle.
Millicent were working into the game with some good attacks resulting in Strother coming head to head with Andy Armandi but a great save from him kept the Blues in front. Blue Lake had numerous opportunities late in the first half and was well on top at this stage.
Although Blue Lake had the bulk of the play during the second half, Millicent was also creating half chances through the relentless work of Strother Gregetic and Saint. The Blues defence was repelling everything that was thrown at them and even when Millicent did get through Armandi was in top form in goals.
Branstone and Reiner were winning the hard ball and with quick transition put Blue Lake into numerous attacking positions. Ferguson and McRostie were in everything in the midfield and with them feeding Tristan Guess, Chatindiara and Thomson it seemed only a matter of time before they went further ahead.
However, as has been the case most of the season, chances were squandered by a combination of good defending, good goalkeeping and bad finishing. All in all it was a good performance by the Blues who, with two games remaining, should be able to hold on to the fourth position on the ladder.
