The Round Ball wins praise

Mount Gambier’s community soccer development has continued to build its reputation in elite soccer circles with its impressive results in last weeks Australian Premier Football Academy National Championships. Fielding sides in all age groups, the Mount Gambier based development program surprised the city based academies making the finals in every age group in at least one of the competitions.
“We certainly turned some heads with our performances” said Scott Dickson CEO of The Round Ball.
“Adelaide and Melbourne’s academies have been established for nearly a decade and have nearly 200 participants, our program is not an elite academy and we have only been together for established for three years. The results that we have had on and off the park during the last week are very pleasing” added Dickson.
The Round Ball made the finals in under 10 futsal, under 12 11-aside, won futsal, 7-aside and 11-aside in both under 14s and 15s and made the finals in both u17 futsal and 7-aside.
“It was a fantastic result and a great indication of the strength of our squads. The visiting coaches including Eddie Krncevik were very impressed with the technical ability of our players and the results of our local teams” added Dickson.
Former Socceroo and Football Federation of Australia Hall of Fame member Eddie Krncevik was so impressed by the local talent that he heaped praise on two local players, identifying them as Player of the Tournament in their age groups. Monique Ianella was selected under 14 player of the championships and Alex Sims was rewarded for his efforts by being named under 15 player of the championships. “Individually our players performed very well with two outstanding players out of five coming from our squads. Tom Weedon was runner up under 15 player of the championship and we would also like to highlight Jayden Breuker who played in goal in both our under 15 and under 17 age groups” said Dickson.
“The championships were a fantastic success” added Zoran Maricic Director of the South Australia based Premier Football Academy, “Scott is highly respected as a coach and his work with The Round Ball is a credit to him. He has some great players and they are very well prepared and drilled. We are very thankful to have held our championships in Mount Gambier and would like to thank both Scott and Tom Dickson for their work in organising the event”.
The Telstra T-Life Cup was presented by Eddie Krncevik to the Melbourne based Australian Premier Football Academy who finished the championships in first position.
