In Round 4 of the Dycer Constructions Premiership, ‘multi- premiership’ winners Inter travel to Shark Park to face the Gambier City Sharks.
Sharks starting line up this week included:
Goal Keeper: Norton Fuller
Defence: Brendon Bytheway, Okezie Nzeakor, Anthony Adesanmi, Heath Widdison
Midfield: Ryan Tobin, Matt Gordon, Tobbei Kennett, Damian Stemberger,
Forwards: Noel Wood, Matt Weistra
Substitutes: Andy Gentile, Stuart Sherrard, Brayden Nunan & Lance Da Rocha.
Match referee: Nathan Butler.
The game was played in good spirit, and ‘football’ was the winner of the day, as no cards were issued by the referee. (yellow/red)
It was a real arm wrestle with Inters forwards Bueti, Morris and Cella kept very quiet by the Sharks solid defence.
Up at the other end of the park, multiple chances by Sharks forwards but like the last 3 games, unable to score a goal.
It was the (15 min), when Inter forward Bueti was awarded a penalty kick, when Sharks defender Bytheway came in with a late tackle, and referee Butler made no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Morris stepped up to take the kick for Inter and converted.
Sharks keeper Fuller was unlucky, as the ball was struck at him with force and he almost managed a save but could not stop the ball from going over the line.
The score 1-0 to Inter
The tempo of the game increased as Inter tried to find another goal to put the real pressure on the Sharks, and vice versa, the Sharks wanted to find a goal before half time, to keep in the game with Inter.
It was the (35min) when the next goal also came from a penalty kick, when Sharks Stemberger who was running towards the goal at pace reached the goal line and was fouled inside the box.
Stemberger stepped up to take kick and made no mistake sending keeper Vonduve the wrong way and placed the ball in the top right hand corner of the goal.
Score 1-1
It was half time, and only one change for the Sharks. Bytheway off, Da Rocha on.
The game sea sawed as the ball was travelling from end to end, both teams having good chances on goal.
The real battle for the day was in the midfield. For the Sharks it was Kennett, Gordon, Weistra and Stemberger, Tobin and Wood, all combining well, matching up well against their opposition.
It was Sharks defence of Widdison who was marking Cella, Nzeakor who was marking Morris, and Da Rocha was marking Bueti, denied Inter any real chances on goal, with Adesanmi sweeping anything that came past the Sharks defence.
In the last minutes of the game, both teams were trying to find the winning goal, and desperate attempts by Kennett, Tobin,Widdison and Weistra proved unsuccessful, and the game ended in a well deserved draw 1-1.
