WHITE RIBBON CUP MAKES ITS MARK

For the second year Mount Gambier’s Community Football Project, The Round Ball has staged a soccer match in honour of victims of domestic abuse.
The White Ribbon Cup was the brainchild of Scott Dickson CEO of The Round Ball and a local White Ribbon Ambassador and was held at Grant High School on Sunday November 28. The Round Ball teamed up with local White Ribbon Ambassadors to launch a trophy, which aims to raise awareness about violence against women and follows International White Ribbon Day and The Shout on November 25. Sundays match saw over 40 local junior soccer players unite to say No to violence against women and provided the opportunity for both male and female players to stand together. “It was a fantastic morning” said local White Ribbon Ambassador and creator of The Shout Tony Byfieldt. “To see all the children giving up their own time to make a stand is a credit to them and their families.
The White Ribbon Campaign is specifically aimed at getting men to stand up against domestic abuse of all forms. The Round Ball‘s support in running this event goes even further by uniting boys and girls, their families and friends. It brought kids from all over the Limestone Coast together, kids from Millicent, Naracoorte, Penola, Portland and of course Mount Gambier participated. It is clear to see that this is a significant initiative.” The match was won 5 goals to 3 by the Telstra T[terrors] coached by Tom Dickson. Mr Dickson went on to say, “The result is not the important thing, it is the message that we are trying to convey that is important. The Round Ball is very happy to support such an initiative in the local community. We are really pleased to be working with the local White Ribbon Ambassadors on this initiative and we value their efforts in raising awareness of the White Ribbon campaign”
