GAMBIER CENTRALS BACK A WINNER

Gambier Centrals Soccer Club has taken a step towards the 2011 season with the appointment of coaches for all grades late last week. President Adrian Koop is excited about the appointments and is pleased that the reigns will return to Centrals stalwart. "Colin Smith did a good job last year in difficult conditions. We have lost a lot of players over the past two seasons and it is very difficult to replace players of the calibre of Ryan Tobin, Tobbie Kennett, Mathew Gordon, Thomas Renzi, Cameron Hart and Neil Gysbers to name a few. Add to that the Heemskerk brothers and Brett Dibley and it is clear to see that last year was a rebuilding year and so will this year." Koop is delighted with the appointment of Geoff O'Loughlin who possesses exactly what the club needs at the moment. "We need a big personality that will shake things up a bit and Geoff will certainly do that". With experience in Adelaide as a state junior and a Western Border medallist O'Laughlin appears to have the pedigree to put the club on track for a successful year. "Geoff has a great deal of experience in elite sport and he brings this elite mentality to the position. Last years results improved as the season progressed and the emergence of junior players like Alex Bissell, Tom Lloyd, Mark Judd, Matt Pilven and Daniel Hough will certainly help us this year."
O'Loughlin has appointed Paul McKenzie as his assistant and both coaches are keen to further develop the juniors coming through the system "We have some great juniors, in fact no club has been able to produce the quality of juniors we have over the past three or four seasons," O'Loughlin added." "This year our juniors will be given the chance to be counted as will our more experienced players. No ones position is safe, I want to create the opportunity for players to fight for the opportunity to pull on the shirt, it shouldn't be a given and it wont be next year".
Last years club Best and Fairest Mitchell Cutting will step into the successful shoes of Nathan Tidy as under 17 coach, while Jesse Wenham will look after the under 14s and Eddie Sakkers, Guy De tot and Mark van Reit will work together with the under 12s.
"It is an experienced group of coaches that have had success in the past as either players or coaches. We are also excited about the work that The Round Ball program has been doing at the club. Over the past few seasons we have seen some very technically gifted juniors coming through the junior ranks and without a doubt The Round Ball has played a major part in their development.
Gambier Centrals will start a preseason 7 a side competition on January 10th at Bishop Road Den starting at 6.30pm, with official preseason starting in Feburary, all interested players are urged to contact Geoff O'Loughlin on 0418 852 821 or Adrian Koop on 0438 586 785
