WBSA Round Ball Round 10 Review‏

WBSA ROUND 10 REVIEW

Western Border Soccer’s A Grade top 4 now looks set as to those teams that will contest for the Dycer Constructions Premiership in September. With a month of Football still to be played the weekends results pretty much ensure that the it will be the current four teams that will play in the finals.

Blue Lake travelled to Bishop Road to take on Centrals. The Rangers having won three of their last four premiership outings were missing key player Tristan Guess due to suspension. This gave keeper Andrew Armandi some on field time as coach Delalou put Reserves keeper Matt Nicholls in the goals. It proved too big of a task for the rangers to get over top of the home side who were also celebrating their Old Boys reunion on Sunday. It was again the Centrals young players who took the spotlight on field with Mark Judd getting two goals for Centrals in their 7 – 1 victory.

Millicent were at home to Portland who were on the road for the second consecutive week, and with relatively fine weather conditions the travelling Panthers put the pressure on the Green and Gold from the outset, with Millicent’s defence tested numerous times. In the 17th minute Portland got on the score sheet, and never looked back, scoring again before half time, and a further three goals in the second half to convincing defeat the struggling Millicent, and remove any hope of a finals birth for United.

Apollo at home for the third week in a row saw a game played on a deteriorating pitch. Some big results earlier in the day & with top spot and a double finals chance almost theirs the reigning premiers aimed to improve their goal difference. Naracoorte put a few past Apollo last time they met and with Centrals and International having big wins in recent weeks goal difference could also play a part come finals placings. Apollo were far too good for the visitors running away with a 14 Nil result.

In the match of the round, it was the Gambier City Sharks taking on International at Shark Park. On a pitch that is in desperate need of some repair the two teams took to the park for a game that would more than likely see the victorious team move clear in second place on the table. The Sharks found some space in just the 4th minute following a corner with Kasole putting the ball past VonDuve who took a knock to the head in the play & needed some medical assistance. A few minutes later and International were disallowed a goal after Moroney was found off-side. The conditions were terrible through the middle of the park and Sam Bueti was able to find some grass for a run down the wing, cutting in and putting the ball past Fuller. Just before half time VonDuve had to be substituted and Matt Bueti went from Striker to Keeper for the visitors much to the home crowds liking. It was the visitors that capitalised in the second half with Moroney finishing finely after stepping around Fuller to take the lead for the first time in the match. The Sharks had their chance when Wiestra got around Bueti, but was unable to finish. A Penalty awarded to Cella and taken by Ileasi clintched the victory for International 3 – 1 and with a game in hand still they now sit second on the table.
