A very successful Western Border Soccer
Association season was capped off with deserving winners of the Player of The
Year & award presentation nights. On Friday 23rd September the
Senior Presentations held at the Commodore On The Park saw International Captain
Christian Cella honoured as the leagues Player of The Year with 19 votes,
securing the win over Centrals Captain Jessie Wenham by four. With an
outstanding second half of the season Gambier City Sharks defender Craig Wright
was a further vote back in third.
The leagues Top Goal Scorer was jointly
awarded to International duo Matthew Bueti & Omari Didero in his first year
at the club. While Premiership coach Lou Zaccardo was awarded Coach of the Year
for the work he has done to get his team to the Premiership.
The B Grade Player of the year saw Bruce
Maddern from Apollo go back to back. He topped the votes on 23 from the 13
premiership games played by his side. Bryce Strachn from Blue Lake enjoyed his
season in the reserves with the Rangers and finished on 18 votes to be the
runner-up. International’s Rashidi took the top goal scorer award in his first
season in the league.
Sponsors of the Minor Premiership Shield
Michcon also made a presentation to International and presented them with a
cheque for $500 for taking out the Minor Premiership. The club now being the
first name on the perpetual shield that will continue with the Association
following the success for the format.
The Dycer Constructions Team of The Year
was also announced on the night with players from six of the eight clubs
featured. 36 players were nominated by the leagues eight coaches and the 16 to
make the team of the year were.
An award was also presented by the
association to Major Sponsor Dycer Constructions for their support of the
competition accepted by Shane Dycer.
