A Grade match report.
This match started with Blue Lake having the advantage of a very strong wind and they made the perfect start when Mitchell Thomson was put through by Walter Chatindiara and he made no mistake with only one minute of the game gone. Naracoorte was trying to get back immediately and had a half chance to Darren Awege but his shot was well blocked by Blair Branstone. Masters also had a chance which Bryce Strachan cleared. Blue Lake almost made it two when a Thomson cross found Tristan Guess who headed just wide. The Blues were well in control at this stage and with Callum Ferguson, Justin McRostie and Bryce Strachan doing as they pleased in the midfield it was up to John Thurlow and Steve Mathie to try to keep the scoring down. They couldn’t do anything about the second goal when Ferguson scored directly from a corner with clever use of the wind. There was a scare at the other end when Masters got through and hit a powerful shot which was well saved by Andy Armandi in the Blues goal. The Blues went into the half time break 2-0 up after having the bulk of the play and Naracoorte would have been very happy with their defensive play against the wind.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Blue Lake dominating across the ground and Naracoorte defending bravely, even with the aid of the strong breeze Naracoorte was unable to penetrate the Blues midfield and when they did the couldn’t get through the young Blues defence. It was just a matter of when the Blues would increase their lead, but as has been the trouble all year they could not find the back of the net. Three good chances in a row were not taken with Strachan, Ferguson and Guess all coming very close. Eventually they did score when a great ball put through from Ferguson found Thomson who scored his second. Blues coach Sam Ferguson made changes to the line up giving his substitutes a run and Michael Davison came on in his 250th A grade game for the club. Davison then started the move which ended up with Guess getting the Blues fourth goal.
The game finished at 4-0 and is the end of the season for Naracoorte while Blue Lake must now prepare for its semi final game next week against Premiers Inter.
