On Saturday night Callum Ferguson will play his first game for North Geelong Warriors after signing earlier in the week. Ferguson has been working with Mount Gambier's Round Ball soccer program and despite the recent success has had, it is his past that may be his greatest ally. Callum Ferguson started playing soccer for the Blue Lake Soccer Club in the year 2000 proudly following the footsteps of his Grandfather Lewis Snr, his father Sam and his uncle Lewis.
From his first game against Inter in 2000, it was evident that he was going to be an exceptional player. As he progressed through the grades he continued to evolve into a multi skilled player. One of Callum’s main attributes is the ability to bring others into the game through high skill level, vision, commitment and team play.
He made his senior debut in 2007 against Centrals and in a special moment for him, he played a game against Naracoorte alongside Sam (dad) and Lewis (uncle) which Blue Lake won 9-3.
Callum is a very modest sportsman who does not like to talk about his individual achievements. However he has won a club trophy at every age group for his ongoing outstanding efforts. Ultimately winning both the League under 17, and the League A Grade best and fairest awards in 2009– a feat which has never been achieved before.
Ferguson’s association with The Round Ball led him to become an entrant for the Fox 8 soccer star reality show Football Superstar along with Cameron Hart and Thomas Renzi and despite impressing during the trials he, like fellow North Geelong player and Round Ball graduate, Cameron Hart were both overlooked.
Upon returning to Mount Gambier Ferguson set about improving his game and impessing for Blue Lake, while keeping his eyes firmly on a soccer pathway. this pathway was widened when Mount Gambier born soccer star Ante Skoko took an interest in ferguson on the recommendation of Scott Dickson. "Ante has been a fan of Callum's since they met and he is very keen to work with him and help him develop. Ante is now coaching at North Geelong and he is looking forward to Callum's arrival at the club."
Dickson, who is the CEO of Mount Gambier's soccer community program the Round Ball is keen to point out that Ferguson football heritage could set him out from the rest "Callum has soocer in his blood, his entire family is heavily involved in soccer. He lives it and knows what it takes to make it to the next level. this will be the start of another chapter for Callum, one that will be very rewarding and we wish him all the best"
The following is a record of Callums achievements and I am sure that this list would be hard to match in any sport.

In 2006 Callum also played for the South Australian under 14 team that won the National Championships in Coffs Harbour and was asked to move to Adelaide, join SASI and train as a prospect for the Joeys, however Callum wasn’t ready to leave Mount Gambier at that stage, now he is ready the question is are they ready for him?
