SEWFA results for weekend 28/5/2011‏

Palace 4 def Portland 0

In perfect playing conditions, reigning Premiers, Palace, hosted the leagues visitors from across the border, Portland, in a game that was pivotal to the fortunes of both as season 2011 unfolds.

Portland have shown considerable cohesion and confidence in recent games and were always going to be a difficult opponent. Palace once again blended its line-up with a mixing of junior and senior contributors and settled in to a passing and possession game early on.

Portlands central defensive pairing of Tracey Jensen and Donna Kilgourwereconstatntly lured out of their comfort zone by the insistence of Palace to play with width.

The balance of tactical applications was in favour of Palace on this occassion as goals came from the Pratt pairing of Olivia and Imogen who each netted a brace.

Scorers:O. Pratt 2, I. Pratt 2

Best Players: I.Pratt(Palace), O.Pratt(Palace),D.Kilgour(Portland)

City 4 def Villa 0

The game was definitely two halves the first was all one way traffic from City with good sustained pressure. The first goal was an own goal, deflected in from a corner that wasn’t well defended (at all). The first half finished with City three goals up.The second half was a more resilient Villa, with a few attacking moves almost paying off; the end result was another goal conceded and City running out 4-0 winners. Both sides played a number of juniors in their teams, with City fielding 3 and Villa 7. Each of these juniors are to becommended on how they played, women’s soccer is in good hands.
Goal Scorers: E.Mackay 2,E.Ireland 1and one own goal
Best Players: E.Mackay(City), L.Birch(City), A.Pilven(Villa)

Wanderers 2 def United 0

Goal Scorers: K.Walker, M.Sims

Millicent 1 drew with County 1

Millicent hosted County at home – both teams came out firing wanting to have the edge over the other. County were certainly dominate in the first half but couldn’t capitilise on the opportunites given to them from their hard midfield workers of Tania Widdison and Angie Paspaliaris. County was rewarded a free kick late in the first half which resulted in a goal.
Millicent came out strong in the second half having plenty of attack and it wasn’t long til it paid off and they scored an equalizer. Both teams continued to have opportunities but were denied from great goal keeping skills from both ends of the park. A match certainly played in great spirit.

Scorers: A Paspaliaris(County), own goal(Millicent)

Best: A.Paspaliaris(County), H.Kent(Millicent), J.Ryan(County)

U14’s

Palace 9 def Portland 3

Though only starting with 7 players, Portland went into the game with lots of enthusiasm. Palace took the upper hand early, opening the scoring. Further goals came for Palace, but Portland, to their credit, never gave up the chase. A comfortable lead at half time allowed for several changes to the Palace line-up. Portland started off the second half with a spirited attack on the Palace goal and were rewarded for their endeavour with 3 goals in the second half. The game was played in good spirit. Both teams enjoyed time together after the game as Palace hosted Portland at a post match party. A great time was had by all.

Goal Scorers:
Palace - K.Kourmouzis 4, L.Oberer 2, I.Pratt, A.Hales, A.Hay.
Portland – R.Gleeson 2, T.Kelsey-Shueard

Best Players: K.Kourmouzis(Palace), A.Bennett(Portland), A.Hay(Palace)

Villa 6 def City 0

The game started quietly with City defending well, but Villa failed to capitalize on some very good ball movement. Eventually Villa scored and went into half time 2 goals up.
The second half was a more direct approach when in front of goal resulting in Villa’s running out 6-0 winners. Emily Birch was a standout player for City Juniors, strong in defense with good run in to the forward line.
Villa played some very nice football, moving the ball cleanly and deliberately through the backs, midfield and forwards.

Best Players: J.Wood(Villa), S.Freeman(Villa), E.Birch(City)

Goal Scorers: N.Koczak, J.Wood 2, J.Donaldson, M.Wilmot

County 1 def Millicent 0

Great display of courage and determination from both sides. Through hard tackles and wonderful defensive work it was hard for either to get a score on the board. It wasn’t until the last few minutes that the deadlock was broken by an unfortunate own goal scored by Millicent. This leaving County the win.

Scorers: own goal

Best Players: G.Peate(County), K.Bosco(Millicent), S.Thomson(County)
