Jenna McCormick to represent State in two sports

It was an exciting day in the McCormick household today after a letter arrived advising Jenna that she had been chosen in South Australia's Under 15 girls soccer team.
This follows news received last week that Jenna had been selected in both the Under 15 and Under 17 girls' state cricket squad, and that she had been awarded a South Australian Country Athlete Scholarship for Cricket.
Jenna, who plays for Palace each weekend in the South East Women's Football Association competition, played with her Western Border teammates through the rain at last weekend's State Junior Championships at Blue Lake Sports Park, Mount Gambier.
Like other country sports juniors, Jenna had to earn her spot in the state side by travelling from Mount Gambier to Adelaide every Monday for the past two months, and will continue to travel until after the upcoming National Championships.
The willingness to travel to Adelaide shows dedication on the part of Jenna and her family, but it also shows how disadvantaged talented country sports juniors are compared to their city counterparts. I can't imagine what the reaction would be if city players and their parents were asked to spend a weekday travelling each week to allow them to qualify for state representation.
Jenna McCormick and South Australia's Under 15 side will travel in July to the National Junior Championships, which this year are being held in Coffs Harbour. The weather in Coffs Harbour in July should be quite different to that experienced by Jenna last weekend in Mount Gambier.
