JOSE THE STAR

Jose Estevez has the chance to be one of fifteen soccer players selected to take part in the Reality Television show Football Superstar during trials in Brisbane this weekend. Following in the steps of Cameron Hart, Callum Ferguson and Thomas Renzi, Estevez was selected from South Australia’s finest talent to represent the state in the Top 50 weekend.
Mount Gambier’s community soccer development program provided the opportunity for Estevez to enter the trials and CEO of The Round Ball, Scott Dickson is delighted that Estevez was chosen. “Jose is a very good player who has been working in our Elite program for nearly twelve months. He is very coach able and has worked hard over summer to give himself every chance to do well in the trials”.
Estevez is the fourth local player in two years to have made the top 10 in South Australia with all boys having worked with Dickson’s Round Ball program. “The success of the four boys has been fantastic, there are a lot of good coaches who have worked with all four players and aided in their development. We are delighted that 20% of the elite players selected from the entire state have come from our program” added Dickson.
Estevez, who attends Mount Gambier High School and plays local soccer for Gambier Centrals will fly to Brisbane with Tom Dickson, Head Coach from The Round Ball on Friday morning and will take part in three days of trials and football specific tests as the selectors trim the group from 50 to 15 over the weekend.
“The selection process is very thorough” added Dickson, “they will test the players with a variety of technical drills, fitness tests and plenty of football. Last year, former Mount Gambier resident, Thomas Renzi was selected as one of two players from South Australia to make the top 15 in Australia and we hope that Jose can do the same.”
The prize up for grabs this year is a A-League youth contract at Brisbane Roar and a one year university scholarship. Dickson added that last years winner Luke Pilkington who was signed to Melbourne Victory has gone on to play in the first team and recently played in Melbourne Victory’s Asian Champions League home game against Beijing Guoan at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
